Tips when hosting a video/teleconference

  • Determine if you are hosting a Meeting or Webinar
  • Don't go out there alone! Appoint a person to act as your "Zoom Captain" (our term, not Zoom's) and give them specific authority to
    • Monitor the Waiting Room and allow/disallow attendees
    • Boot attendees who are being purposefully or accidentally disruptive
    • Mute all attendees
    • Unmute attendees who forget to unmute themselves
    • Switch video modes as necessary
  • Set attendees to be muted on entry
  • When setting up the meeting, set your Zoom Captain as a co-host
  • If possible, plug in to the network instead of using wifi
  • For public events, consider contacting MarCom to use the Newsroom
  • Select an appropriate backdrop or one of MarCom's Cedarville University backgrounds
  • If connecting from home, warn your family and lock your door
  • Raise up your camera to eye level. If using a laptop, elevate your device with a stand or books (ensure it is stable) and use an external mouse and/or keyboard at table level
  • Smile and greet attendees
