Summary

This article will help you use tech carts in a variety of BTS classrooms.

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

  • Press the DISPLAY ON button. The image will appear in about 15 seconds.

To show the tech cart computer image:

  • Press the PC button.
  • Note: To adjust the volume, turn the volume knob on the touch panel left and right

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to one of the cables provided, press the LAPTOP button, and press the button corresponding to the cable you used.'

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To show a DVD video:

  1. Put the DVD in the PC disk drive
  2. On the tech cart PC, go to the Start Menu, then click File Explorer, then click “This PC”. Alternatively, search for “This PC” in the search bar.
  3. Double click the DVD drive.

Note: Use the arrow keys to navigate menus.

To use the document camera (if present):

  • Press the power button on the document camera. 
  • Press the DOC CAM button.

To black-out the screen:

  • Press the MUTE button.
  • To return to the image, press the MUTE button again. 

To play audio with the projector off:

  • Press either the PC or LAPTOP button. 
  • Play your audio.

When you are done:

  • Log off the computer properly.
  • Remove all USB devices and discs from their appropriate places.
  • Press the DISPLAY OFF button.

BTS 102

To turn on projector:

  • Tap the POWER icon.
  • Tap the DISPLAY ON icon on the touch panel.

To show the tech cart computer image:

  • Tap the PC icon.

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to the provided HDMI cable.
  • Tap the LAPTOP icon   .

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To adjust the volume:

  • Use the volume controls on the touch screen.

Note: The VOLUME MUTE icon mutes PC and laptop audio. It does not mute microphone audio.

To use the document camera:

  • Press the power button to turn the document camera on.
  • Open the Ladibug software icon on the desktop.

To black-out the screen:

  • Tap the MUTE PROJECTORS icon.
  • To return to the image, tap the VIDEO MUTE icon again. 

To use the lapel microphone:

  • Open the case by pressing the two buttons on the side of the bodypack.
  • Press the power button in the center.
  • Control the microphone volume by touching the button LAV MIC VOLUME on the touch panel.

When you are done:

  • Log off the computer properly.
  • Remove all USB devices and discs from their appropriate places.
  • Tap the red SYSTEM OFF button.

BTS 103

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

To use the document camera (if present):

  1. Press the power button on the document camera. 
  2. Press the DOC CAM button.

To black-out the screen:

  1. Press the MUTE button.
  2. To return to the image, press the MUTE button again. 

To play audio with the projector off:

  1. Press either the PC or LAPTOP button. 
  2. Play your audio.

When you are done:

  1. Log off the computer properly.
  2. Remove all USB devices and discs from their appropriate places.
  3. Press the DISPLAY OFF button.

BTS 103 Recording (Faculty/Staff Only)

Notes:

  • The recording software is located on the computer in BTS 103C control room.
  • The projector does NOT have to be turned on for the recording to work.
  • Microphones are located in the drawer in BTS 103C.
  • Do NOT change any settings on the sound mixer in the control room.
  • You may use other programs during the recording process.

Pre-Recording Process

  1. If you are using the tech cart to show the computer or a video, login to CedarNet as usual.

  2. Open any program and files you will need and select the video source (PC, Laptop, DVD, etc.).
  3. Make sure the volume is not muted on the computer and turn the volume up to an appropriate level.
  4. Make sure the source is showing on the projection screen.
  5. Get the lapel microphone from BTS 103C control room.
    • Make sure the battery is OK by checking the battery icon in the LCD window.
      • If there is only 1 bar, please replace the batteries.
    • Clip the lapel microphone to the shirt or jacket of the presenter.
      • Ideally it should be center of the body about 4-5 inches from the chin.
    • The belt pack may be clipped to a belt, pants, skirt or put into a pocket very carefully so the antenna or microphone cable does not get damaged.
    • Operate microphone as normal.
  6. You must use the camera remote control to pan, tilt, and zoom the camera to frame the image for recording. The touch panel in BTS 103C does not work any more.
    • The camera remote control does have preset buttons and they are set to the following.
      • 1 is a medium shot of the presenter area.
      • 2 is a wider shot of the presenter area.
      • 3 is just the screen.
      • 6 is the presenter, tech cart, screen, whiteboard, and the first rows of students.

Recording Process

  1. Double click the Movavi Video Editor Plus 2021 icon.

    • Click Record Video
    • The Main window will minimize and a recording window will open
    • Do not change any settings
    • Under File renaming: click the down arrow and select Add free text
    • Under Where: you may add your own text before the file name or after the file name (It does add it's own naming structure to the file)
    • Under Text: type the students name
  2. Click Start capture
    • The side bar will disappear during the recording proces
  3. Click Stop Capture to stop recording
  4. You may click the View saved files to see the videos you just recorded today
  5. If you forget to change the name of the file before recording, it will keep the same name, but add a "(1)" after the name or "(2)", etc.
  6. You can change the name within File Explorer

Video File Converter

  1. Open Movavi Video Converter 17.

  2. In the top left corner, click +Add Media.
  3. Click "Add Video".
  4. In the pop up window, click the video file you want to convert.
  5. Click "Open".
  6. On the bottom, click the Video tab.
  7. Click MP4 - a window will pop up with the different MP4 setting to choose.
  8. You can choose any form you want, but I recomment the MP4 H.264 - 640 x 480 to make the file size smaller.
  9. In the bottom right corner, click the Convert button.
    • A bar at the bottom will show the progress of the conversion.
  10. When the conversion is done, a File Explorer window will popup with your new video converted to MP4.
  11. You may then transfer the file from the local C drive to the network drive, Google drive or Box drive.

File Transfer

  1. Click on the windows icon in the bottom left corner.

  2. Click File Explorer.
  3. Click on the C drive -> Users -> Your Credentials -> Videos -> Movavi Library.
  4. Open another File Explorer window.
  5. Click on the network drive you wish to transfer the file to.
  6. Left click and hold the video file(s) you want to copy from C:\Users\YourCredentials\Videos\Movavi Library folder then drag them to the desired network folder.
  7. Repeat the process if you have other videos to transfer.
  8. Close all windows.
  9. Log off the computer.
  10. Turn off the microphone.
  11. Log off the tech cart cart computer.
  12. Turn off the projector.
  13. Close and lock the door to BTS 103C the control room.

Delete Video Files

  • If you do not delete your video files by the end of the semester, Information Technology - Technical Services will delete them after the last final so there is room on the computer for new recordings.

  • You may delete YOUR files only.
  • If you delete files other than yours, the other recordings will not be recoverable for the other faculty who have recorded sessions.

 

BTS 104

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

  • Press the DISPLAY ON button. The image will appear in about 15 seconds.

To show the tech cart computer image:

  • Tap the PC button.

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to one of the cables provided, and then tap either the HDMI LAPTOP button or the DISPLAY PORT button depending on your connection.

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images. 

To adjust the volume:

  • Use the volume controls on the touch screen.

Note: The VOLUME MUTE button mutes PC, laptop, and DVD audio. It does not mute microphone audio.

To show a DVD video:

  • Put the DVD in the PC disk drive
  • On the tech cart PC, go to the Start Menu, then click File Explorer, then click “This PC”. Alternatively, search for “This PC” in the search bar.
  • Double click the DVD drive

Note: Use the arrow keys to navigate menus.

To use the document camera:

  • Press the power button to turn the document camera on.
  • Tap the DOC CAM button on the touch screen.

Note: To zoom in or out, rotate the dial by the bottom right corner of the preview   window on the document camera.

To use the lapel microphone:

  • To turn on the microphone, press and hold the MUTE button on top. A green light will come on.
  • To mute the microphone, tap the MUTE button on top. The green light will change to amber.
  • To unmute the microphone, tap the MUTE button on top again. The amber light will change to green.

When you are done:

  • Log off the computer properly.
  • Remove all USB devices and discs from their appropriate places.
  • Tap the red SYSTEM OFF button.

BTS 112

To turn the wall mounted TV on:

  • Press the small black button under the center of the TV.

To show the PC image:

  • Wake the PC by shaking the mouse and/or typing on the keys.
  • Make sure the DisplayPort cable is plugged into the back of the PC.
  • If the image doesn't appear, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

To show laptop image(only if you have DisplayPort capability):

  • Make sure the PC is not plugged into the DisplayPort cable.
  • Connect to the DisplayPort cable and the image should automatically appear. 
  • If not, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To adjust the volume:

  • Use your device's volume controls.

  • Turn off the TV with the button underneath and turn off the lights.

BTS 113

To turn the wall mounted TV on:

  • Press the small black button under the center of the TV.

To show the PC image:

  • Wake the PC by shaking the mouse and/or typing on the keys.
  • Make sure the HDMI cable is plugged into the back of the PC.
  • If the image doesn't appear, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

To show laptop image:

  • Make sure the PC is not plugged into the HDMI.
  • Connect to the HDMI cable and the image should automatically appear. 
  • If not, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

If you have trouble:

  • Make sure the cable you want to use is the one connected to the TV and not another.

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To adjust the volume:

  • Use your device's volume controls.

When you are done:

  • Turn off the TV with the button underneath and turn off the lights.

BTS 115

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

  • Press the DISPLAY ON button. The image will appear in about 15 seconds.

To show the tech cart computer image:

  • Tap the PC button.

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to one of the cables provided, and then tap either the HDMI LAPTOP button or the DISPLAY PORT button depending on your connection.                             

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To adjust the volume:

  • Use the volume controls on the touch screen.

When you are done:

BTS 204

To turn the wall mounted TV on:

  • Press the small black button under the center of the TV.

To show the PC image:

  • Wake the PC by shaking the mouse and/or typing on the keys.
  • Make sure the Display Port cable is plugged into the back of the PC and take the HDMI end to connect to the HDMI 1 input on the left side of the TV.
  • If the image doesn't appear, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

To show laptop image:

  • Make sure the PC is not plugged in and use the HDMI cord to plug into the TV.
  • Connect to the HDMI cable and the image should automatically appear. 
  • If not, try unplugging and plugging back in or turning the TV off and on.

Note: If the image does not appear, try pressing the Windows key and the P key at the same time and selecting either Duplicate or Extend. 

If you have trouble:

  • Make sure the cable you want to use is the one connected to the TV and not another.

BTS 205

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

  • Press the DISPLAY ON button. The image will appear in about 15 seconds.

To show the tech cart computer image:

  • Press the PC button.

Note: To adjust the volume, turn the volume knob on the touch panel left and right

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to one of the cables provided, press the LAPTOP button, and press the button corresponding to the cable you used.

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

To show a DVD video:

  1. Put the DVD in the PC disk drive
  2. On the tech cart PC, go to the Start Menu, then click File Explorer, then click “This PC”. Alternatively, search for “This PC” in the search bar.
  3. Double click the DVD drive

Note: Use the arrow keys to navigate menus.

To use the document camera (if present):

  1. Press the power button on the document camera. 
  2. Press the DOC CAM button.

To black-out the screen:

  1. Press the MUTE button.
  2. To return to the image, press the MUTE button again. 

To play audio with the projector off:

  1. Press either the PC or LAPTOP button. 
  2. Play your audio.

When you are done:

  1. Log off the computer properly.
  2. Remove all USB devices and discs from their appropriate places.
  3. Press the DISPLAY OFF button.

To turn the ceiling mounted projector on:

  • Press the power button on the projector remote, wait 30 seconds.

To show the  computer image:

  • Turn on and sign into computer while projector is on.
  • If it does not connect select HDMI 1 on the projector remote.
  • If that does not work then hit the windows key "P" on your keyboard simultaneously and select duplicate.

Note: To adjust the volume, use the computer volume controls.

To show the laptop image:

  • Attach your laptop to one of the cables provided.

BTS 266

To turn the wall mounted monitor on:

  • Press the ON button on the TV remote.

To show the desktop computer image:

  • Make sure the computer is on.
  • Select the input HDMI 2.

Note: To adjust the volume, use the computer volume or the volume controls on the remote.

To show the laptop image:

  1. Select HDMI 3 input.
  2. On your windows PC select windows key + p at the same time.
  3. Select connect to a wireless display.
  4. Select the screen cast option.

To duplicate or extend the computer image to the projector or TV:

  1. Press and hold the Windows key and press the letter P (Windows + P).
  2. A window will appear with 4 options. Select the option you wish to use:
    • Duplicate will make the local monitor and the projection screen have the same image.
    • Extended will make the local monitor and the projection screen have different images.

If you are using a mac:

  1. Select HDMI 3 input.
  2. Select airplay on your mac.
  3. Select screen cast.

When you are done:

  1. Log off the computer properly.
  2. Remove all USB devices, videotapes and discs from their appropriate places.
  3. Press the power button on the remote to turn TV off.
