Installing Apps that are Unavailable in the Microsoft Store

Body

If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode.

Switching out of S mode is one-way. The change is permanent; if you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 or Windows 11 in S mode. There is no charge to switch out of S mode.

To switch out of S mode:

  1. Navigate to the Microsoft support page on switching out of S mode.
  2. Click the blue button, [Switch out of S mode]
  3. Click [Open Microsoft Store] to navigate to the page for switching out of S mode.
  4. Follow instructions on the page and select the [Get] button.

After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.
