Laptop Bad Battery Remedy

This is for when customers report a bad battery and its the fact that it has degraded over time and theres nothing much that can be done other than keeping it plugged in

1. Energy Saver (formerly Battery Saver):

  • Access:

    Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Energy saver. 

  • Function:

    This mode automatically reduces power consumption by turning off background activities and push notifications, extending battery life. 

  • Customization:

    • Enable or disable Energy Saver manually or configure it to activate automatically when your battery reaches a certain percentage. 
    • You can also choose to always run Energy Saver when plugged in. 
  • Quick Access:

    You can also quickly toggle Energy Saver on/off from the Quick Settings menu. 

2. Power Modes:

  • Access: Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode. 
  • Function: Choose from different power modes (e.g., "Best battery life," "Balanced," or "Best performance") to optimize energy usage and performance based on your needs. 
  • Customization: You can create custom power plans to fine-tune settings further. 

3. Screen and Sleep Settings:

  • Access:

    Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.

  • Function:

    Adjust how long your screen remains on and how long your device waits before going to sleep, optimizing for energy efficiency.

  • Customization:

    Set different timeouts for when your device is plugged in and when it's on battery power. 

4. Energy Recommendations:

  • Access: Go to Settings > System > Power & battery > Energy recommendations. 
  • Function: Windows can analyze your usage patterns and provide recommendations for optimizing energy consumption, such as adjusting screen brightness or setting sleep times. 
  • Customization: You can choose to apply all recommendations or adjust specific settings individually. 

5. Other Tips for Energy Saving:

  • Lower Screen Brightness: Dimming the display is one of the most effective ways to save battery life.
  • Disable Unnecessary Background Apps: Close apps that are not in use to reduce power consumption.
  • Use Power-Efficient Apps: Opt for apps that are designed to be power-efficient.
  • Check for Updates: Ensure your device has the latest Windows updates, which often include power management improvements.
