Privacy Permissions: Parent Usage

Body

If you are the parent of a university student, there are steps your student must take so you can discuss his or her records with University staff members and access his or her electronic records.

For information on the steps your student must take, please see Privacy Permissions (Students). Once your son or daughter has granted you access, follow the steps below to discuss and view his or her records.

To Discuss Your Student's Records:

There are certain offices on campus that require student consent for parents to discuss their student's records. These offices include Cashiers, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Development, The Cove and Disability Services, Information Technology, and University Medical Services.

  1. When you call a University office to discuss information about a student, the staff member will first verify that access has been granted for you to speak with their office.
  2. You will then need to provide the “Code Word” your student created when he or she granted you with parent access. If you do not know the code word, please ask your student to share the word with you.

To Access Your Student's Online Records and Make Financial Payments:

In order for you to have online access to your student's financial and academic records, he or she will have to grant permission. Once permission has been granted, you can access records by completing the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to Self-Service (www.cedarville.edu/selfservice).
  2. You will log in with your CedarNet username, followed by “@cedarville.edu” and your password. (e.g. username@cedarville.edu)  If you do not know your username and password, please call Information Technology (937-766-7905) for assistance.
  3. All the student accounts that you can access will appear in the Person Proxy window.  Otherwise, click the person icon at the top blue bar, then select "Change Proxy User."
  4. Select the name of the student whose account you would like to access. ** NOTE ** All the student and financial information will be associated with the student’s account and not the parent’s account. Select Continue.
  5. Your student information will be available for you in this Self-Service screen.
