Apple Remote Desktop for Mac Labs

Summary

How to use Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) for stations in Mac computer labs such as TYL 103, 105, and 107.

Body

Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) must be configured separately for each user on each computer he or she plans to use (e.g., each professor on Tyler 103, 105, and 107 tech carts). The room file should automatically insert an admin username (e.g., tyllabadmin) and password into the application.

To start Apple Remote Desktop for the first time:

  1. Open Apple Remote Desktop.
  2. Select Agree.
  3. Enter your new password twice, then click Continue.
  4. Leave the task server field blank, then click Continue.
  5. Select Done.

To import a room file into Apple Remote Desktop:

  1. Download the room file you would like to add - take note of the location where this file is saved.
  2. With Apple Remote Desktop open, select File > Import List.
  3. Select the folder location from Step 1 and choose the room file you want to add (e.g., "TYL-103.ardencryptedplist").
  4. Type the Archive Password (provided by I.T.) for the corresponding room.
  5. Select Open.
  6. Allow any permissions, if prompted.
  7. Click Advanced Options.
  8. Make sure the following options are selected, then click Add.
