Microsoft: Install Office 365

Cedarville University offers Office 365 to current faculty, staff, and students at no charge. Office 365 is a subscription version of Microsoft Office. It allows users to download and use the most recent versions of OneDrive (1 terabyte of storage), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Sway, and Forms. Students will not be responsible for renewing their subscription each month; it will automatically renew for you. However, once you graduate, your Office 365 account will automatically be deleted along with your documents. 

Note: Office 365 can only be downloaded on your personal laptop or mobile devicenot a University-owned computer.

To install Office 365 on your Mac, it must be running OS X 10.10 or later.

To install Office 365 on your PC, it must be running Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 10 Server, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, or Windows Server 2008 R2.

To Install Office 365 on a Mac: 

  1. Navigate to www.office.com.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click [Sign in].
  3. In the "Email or phone" field, enter your Cedarville email address.
  4. Press [Tab] or place your cursor in the "Password" field. You will be redirected to the Cedarville Login screen.
  5. Enter your CedarNet username and password > Click [Sign in]. You will be re-directed to the Microsoft Office webpage. 
  6. If you already have a Microsoft Office account and/or have subscribed to Office 365 in the past using your cedarville.edu email address as the account name, you may be asked to choose between the following:
    • If you choose the Work/School account (access to OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Sway, and Forms), you will be directed to the Cedarville login screen. Continue to step 4.
    • If you choose the Personal account (access to Microsoft email/calendar, OneDrive, Word, Excel, OneNote, Sway, and Forms, and more), you can choose between the following:
  7. Near the upper-right side of the screen, Click [Install Office 2016]. The software should begin to download.
  8. Once the software has downloaded, open Finder > Click "Downloads" > Select "Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg."
  9. Click [Continue] on the installation window to begin the installation.
  10. Click [Continue] again > Select [Agree] to agree to the terms and conditions > Click [Install].
  11. Type in your Mac username and password > Click [Install Software]. The software will begin to install. After the installation is complete, launch any of the Office apps to use it. 

To Install Office 365 on a PC:

  1. Navigate to www.office.com.
  2. In the upper-right corner, Click [Sign in].
  3. Press [Tab] or place your cursor in the "Password" field. You will be redirected to the Cedarville Login screen.
  4. Enter your CedarNet username and password > Click [Sign in]. You will be re-directed to the Microsoft Office webpage. 
  5. If you already have a Microsoft Office account and/or have subscribed to Office 365 in the past using your cedarville.edu email address as the account name , you may be asked to choose between the following:
    • If you choose the Work/School account (access to OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Sway, and Forms), you will be directed to the Cedarville login screen. Continue to step 4.
    • If you choose the Personal account (access to Microsoft email/calendar, OneDrive, Word, Excel, OneNote, Sway, and Forms, and more), you can choose between the following:
  6. Near the upper-right side of the screen, click [Install Office 2016]. 
  7. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
