IP Address Range Settings for Proctored Online Exams on campus

Some online Exam providers (HESI, ExamSoft, etc) allow the exam administrator to define a range of Internet addresses (IP addresses) that are permitted to access the exam. The usual purpose for these settings is to allow the exam administrator to make sure that any students taking the exam are in the proctored location (i.e. not taking the exam from their dormitory or home), by limiting the exam to computers within a specific building.

Cedarville University cannot currently limit students by IP address range when they are using student-provide computers, or computers that connect wirelessly to the network, but we can provide IP address ranges to limit exams where all students are using Cedarville-owed computers connected to the wired network in a building. If you're interested in doing this for your exam, please contact the Network & Infrastructure Services team using the Network & Internet ServeCU form.

For exams where students will be using their own computers or computers that connect wirelessly to the internet using the eduroam or cu-manual wireless networks, please use the following IP address ranges to allow them access:

  • 163.11.0.0 - 163.11.255.255
  • 10.13.64.0 - 10.13.127.255

These ranges will not prevent students from access the exam from other buildings on campus, but it should allow all on-campus students to take the exam.

For exams that need to be accessible from off-campus, use the following range:

  • 0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255

If you have questions about limiting access to your exam, please contact the Network & Infrastructure Services team a week or two before the exam time, using the Network & Internet ServeCU form.
