ChatGPT Edu is a secure, education-focused version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT designed for use by universities. It offers advanced AI tools for learning, research, and productivity, all within a privacy-protected environment. Cedarville adopted ChatGPT Edu to give students, faculty, and staff access to cutting-edge AI while maintaining our commitment to Christ-centered excellence and integrity.
NOTE: ChatGPT Edu accounts are available for FULL-TIME FACULTY/STAFF members and DEGREE SEEKING STUDENTS (students ages 13 - 18 years of age will need a completed parental consent form).
Step 1: Open your email
Qualified members of CU will receive an email from noreply@tm.openai.com. Once you open the email, you will see an invitation to Open AI. Select the green Join Workspace button in the email.
Step 2: Get Started
After clicking Join Workspace, a new window will open to start the log in process. When it populates, select the blue Log In button.
Step 3: Enter your CU email
You will then be presented with options for accessing your account. Here you will enter your CU email address and select Continue.
Step 4: Select Log In Option
On the following page you will select the first option available: Cedarville University ChatGPT Edu.
If you have an existing ChatGPT Plus subscription or a free ChatGPT account:
You’ll have additional prompts to choose what to do with your current workspace. You’ll have two options:
- Transfer – Move your existing chat history and custom GPTs into your new Edu workspace
- Export and Delete – Download your data and permanently delete your current workspace.
After making your selection, you'll be asked to confirm your choice.
Step 5: Let's GO!
The next page will provide instructions on how to set up your account. Select the Okay, Let's Go option to continue the process.
Step 6: Select Your Role
The following window will allow you to select your role.
Here you will select your CU role:
- Student — Student
- Faculty — Instructional Staff
- Staff — Administration
Step 7: Select Your Field
Select the option that matches your designated department/field. This helps ChatGPT Edu customize its responses and prompts to meet your individual needs.
Step 8: Customize Your Chat Responses
Look in the bottom left hand corner of the page. You should see your name and a purple circle with a white diamond.
Click on the purple circle with a white diamond, and a box will open.
Select Customize ChatGPT Edu.
This window will allow you to personalize the responses ChatGPT provides:
Step 9: Set Up Account Settings
Navigate to the settings by selecting the purple circle with the white diamond again. Here you can customize your account.
Step 10: Welcome to OPEN AI CHATGPT Edu!
You are now ready to start on your AI journey! Remember the better the prompt the better the response!
Note: By selecting the purple circle with the white diamond, Help and Log Out options will populate.
