📞 Microsoft Teams: Calling Scenarios

Learn how to make and receive Teams calls to and from contacts at Cedarville and outside Cedarville.

Calling a Cedarville Employee

From the Desktop or Web Application

Option 1: From the Calls Screen

Go to the Calls screen, then search for your colleague's contact information from the search field above the dial pad.

Enter their name or phone number into the field, select them from the search results, then select Call to start the call.

Option 2: From the Chat Screen

Go to the Chat screen, then go to a recent chat with the colleague you wish to contact. Select the call icon from the top-right to start the call.

From the Mobile Application

Option 1: Using the Dial Pad

Go to the Calls tab, select the phone icon to view the dial pad.

Select the phone number, then select the phone icon to start a call. 

Option 2: Using their Contact Card

Go to the Calls tab, then enter the contact's name.

Select the contact card icon.

Select either the phone icon to use Teams Audio Chat or their phone number to call their extension using the phone service.

Calling External Contacts

From the Desktop or Web Application

Go to the Calls tab, then enter in the 10-digit phone number of the contact you wish to call using the search field or the dial pad below it. 

Select Call to start the call.

From the Mobile Application

Option 1: From the Dial Pad

Select the Calls tab, then select the phone icon to view the dial pad.

Enter the 10-digit phone number of the contact you wish to call using the dial pad, then tap the call button to start the call.

Option 2: From the People Tab

Additionally, you can select People to search through the Global Address List and your smartphone's contact list. Tap the call icon to start the call.

Receiving Calls

From Cedarville Contacts

Through the Desktop or Web Application

  • If you receive a call from someone on campus, you will be notified through a pop-up window on the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Select the video button to answer with your video capabilities and the phone button to answer with audio capabilities only.

Through the Mobile Application

  • The incoming call will use your device's default method of showing an incoming call with the contact's name, and it will indicate that it is coming from Microsoft Teams.
  • Select the video button to answer with your video capabilities and the phone button to answer with audio capabilities only.

From External Contacts

Through the Desktop or Web Application

  • If you receive a call from an external contact, the phone number or ID of the caller will appear in a pop-up window in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Select the phone icon to answer the call.

Through the Mobile Application

  • The incoming call will use your device's default method of showing an incoming call with the contact's phone number or ID.
  • Select your phone's call answer button to pick up the call.
