Information Technology offers students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to request a change in their CedarNet username (login name) via a transaction available in myCU. Reasons to request a change could include:
-
Wanting a shorter or less complex login name
-
To reflect a change in your legal name (e.g., marriage)
-
Unwanted or confusing similarity to another CU email address.
The myCU portal task to request a change in your username is called Change User Name.
When you request your username change, you'll need to wait 1-3 business days for a member of the Information Technology team to approve the request. We may deny requests that appear to be frivolous, or if the requested username doesn't include your last name in some form. Usernames are limited to 20 characters, but allowances will be made if you have a particularly long last name, and wish to only use part of it. You will receive an email once your request has been approved with details about what will happen next.
After your request is approved, the username change will be processed around 2:30 a.m. the next day. You'll receive an email once the process is complete.
Once a username is changed, we will maintain an alias for the old email address for a period of six months. During this time, incoming email sent to the old email address and the new email address will be delivered. After six months, only the new email address will be valid.
Warning: The username change process can sometimes be disruptive, and may prevent you from logging in for several hours after it takes place. Please take this into account and pick a time when you can be without access to your account for a little while. Many people wait for an extended vacation, break or inter-term period when they will not need access to their account as urgently.
