Some ChatGPT models and features use credits. Credit usage varies depending on the model or feature you use and, for some tools, the size and complexity of your request.
Common Credit Costs
The following are examples of current ChatGPT credit rates:
- Instant: Unlimited.
- GPT-5.6 Sol: Approximately 10 credits per message.
- GPT-5.6 Sol Pro: Approximately 50 credits per message.
- Agent mode: Approximately 30 credits per message.
- Deep research: Approximately 50 credits per task.
- Image generation: Approximately 5 credits per generation.
- Voice in ChatGPT: Approximately 5 credits per minute.
For ChatGPT Edu customers, some usage is included without consuming credits. This currently includes 3 image generations per rolling 24-hour period and 5 deep research queries per rolling 24-hour period.
Other features, such as ChatGPT Work and Codex, may use credits based on the number of input and output tokens used rather than a fixed amount per request. More complex or larger tasks can therefore use more credits.
