I Don't Know My BitLocker Key
If your device prompts you to enter your BitLocker key, here is where to obtain your key:
For a Cedarville faculty or staff system:
Contact Cedarville IT at 937-766-7905. A staff member should be able to locate your BitLocker key using Azure AD.
For a personal system:
- Visit aka.ms/myrecoverykey
- Sign in to your account
Note: Cedarville IT does not have Bitlocker keys for systems not under our management.
Bypassing BitLocker (For University Faculty and Staff Only)
University-provided Windows computers use BitLocker Device Encryption to securely protect your data from potential loss or theft. Sometimes, you will see a prompt to enter the BitLocker Recovery Key. This prompt can appear for many reasons, but it becomes burdensome when it constantly reoccurs. The following steps provide a solution to bypass the BitLocker Recovery Key on your office computer.
To Reset BitLocker on a University-Provided Computer:
- Power the computer OFF.
- Unplug the power cable and wait 10 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cable back in.
- Press and release the power button to turn the computer ON.
If the system boots into Windows, you are done. If not, you may have to repeat the process again.
FOR TECHNICIAN USE ONLY: Check the
BIOS and/or
Device Manager to see if the TPM module is being detected.
- BIOS: Look in the Security section.
- Device Manager: Look in the Security devices section.
If it is not showing up in either of those locations, proceed with the steps indicated above.
