This article will teach you how to import an audio file into Adobe Premiere Pro, transcribe the audio file and how to export the transcription to a Word document.
*For this process to work you will need to have Adobe Premiere Pro installed on your computer. If you need assistance downloading Premiere Pro please click HERE and it will give you directions to download Premiere Pro.
- Open Adobe Premiere Pro
- In the upper left hand corner, click "New Project"
- Once again in the upper left hand corner, enter the name for your project. (Note: this is the name that the file will be saved under)
- In the lower right hand corner, click "Create"
- In the upper left hand corner, click "File" and then "Import..."
- Go to your audio files location, select the file and click, "Open"
- Your file should appear in the lower left hand corner, click and drag the file over to the Timeline box
- In the upper left corner, click the "Window" drop down menu and be sure "Text" is checked. If not click "Text"
- A Text box should appear in on the left of your screen, be sure that the "Transcript" tab is selected and click the ellipsis (...)
- From the drop down menu, click "Generate static transcript..."
- If you want to have the transcription identify multiple speakers, click the arrow next to "Transcription Preferences (language, labeling, audio)"
- Click the drop down menu below "Speaker labeling" and click "Yes, separate speakers" then click "Transcribe"
- Depending on the length of the audio file this may take a little time to process, when it is complete you will see the transcription on the left side of your screen.
- You can then review and edit the transcription to verify the accuracy. You can click the "Play" button to hear the audio file and the text will highlight as they are spoken.
- To edit the transcript click the area you want to edit and click the "Edit" button, this will open a box that you can edit the text in.
- Once you have finished editing the transcription, click the ellipses "..." from the drop down menu click "Export" and then click "Export to text file..."
- In the Save Box, choose where you would like to save the transcription, name the file and click "Save"
- Minimize or close Adobe Premiere Pro and go to the location you saved you transcription and open the file.
(Note, if you get a pop up asking what program to use to open the file, select Notepad)
- Open Word and create a Blank Document
- In right-click anywhere in the text on Notepad, then click "Select All"
- Right-click on the highlighted text and click "Copy"
- Return to your Blank Word document and click "Paste"
- Save your Word document.
