This article is intended for FACULTY and STAFF only.
Google Mail allows you to email University groups, such as faculty and staff, a specific class (junior, senior), a specific residence hall, a specific department, or a specific major or minor.
The following information also applies to emailing groups in Microsoft Outlook.
Emailing University Groups in Google Mail:
Accessing the University Email Groups PDF:
Because the email addresses for University groups do not appear in the Cedarville email directory, information technology has provided a PDF that lists the university group email addresses.
-
Type cedarville.edu/it in your browser's navigation bar.
-
From the left navigation panel, click “Mailing Groups (PDF).” If you are not already logged in to CedarNet, you will be prompted to enter your CedarNet username and password. The PDF listing of mailing groups will display.
Example:
The email addresses for University groups in certain categories (residence halls, majors, minors, departments) follow a pattern and provide a sample email address for each category. In the PDF, you will find “codes” for the rest of the email addresses in that category. Replace the sample code with the code that represents the University group you want to send an email to.
Suppose mechanical engineering is the sample email address for emailing specific majors. A list of codes for all other majors are listed in the PDF. Replace the part of the email address specific to mechanical engineering with the code for the major you want to email.
Custom Email Lists
On occasion, an office or department will ask to send an email to a large group. If these emails are external (i.e. to all parents or alumni of a department) then the department should reach out to the Marketing and Communication department. Marcomm has access to software that allows a large numbers of emails to be sent while adhering to the CANN-SPAM act.
