Import Scores from DataLink (Faculty)

Importing Scores into Canvas from DataLink is a 4-step process.

Note: When students are taking the test or quiz you are going to import, ensure students fill in their ID number.

Step 1: Add the Student Database

  1. Open DataLink Connect on the computer where you'll be scanning your tests. 
    Note: if DataLink Connect is not installed, please request the installation by IT.
  2. Navigate to File > Student Database
  3. Select Import Students
  4. Select Choose File
  5. In the File Name field, enter the following:
    \\sapling\appscan\students.csv    Once you enter the file name, click on the Open button.
    Note: You do not need to navigate to a specific folder to complete this step. Just enter the file name as it is above, and the computer will find the file automatically.
  6. Select Import
  7. Select OK

Step 2: Scan the Quizzes or Tests into DataLink

  1. Scan the key sheet first.
  2. Finish scanning every student’s quiz or exam.
  3. Verify that DataLink found every student.
  4. Click [Excel Export].
  5. Name and save the spreadsheet as prompted.

Step 3: Export the Scores in Excel Format

  1. In Excel, open the file you exported.
  2. Go to the “Class Roster” sheet, located at the bottom left corner of the spreadsheet (the second tab).
  3. Select the ID Number and Score Columns, including the headers, then press [Ctr]l+[C] to copy the information.
  4. Click "File" > "New."
  5. Paste the values that you copied from the first Excel file.
  6. Click "File" > "Save As" > "Save as type" > "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)."
  7. Click [Save].
  8. Click [Yes] on any message boxes you receive.

Step 4: Upload the scores to Canvas

Note: You'll need to copy/paste in the grades from the exported CSV into the Canvas CSV you download. you can make sure that the students are in the same order by using Excel to sort by their ID number.
