Google Gmail Setup on Personal Device

This article will take you through the process of setting up a Google email account for your @cedarville.edu address. Whether you have an Android or Apple device, you will be able to create an account in a few simple steps.

Android Account Setup

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Scroll down to "Accounts" and select "Add Account".
  3. Select "Google" and then select "Or create a new account".
  4. In the space provided, type in your name and then select "Next".
  5. Enter the information prompted (e.g., birthdate, gender, etc.) and select "Next".
  6. Type in your CedarNet username and select "Next".
  7. Type in your CedarNet password and confirm it, then add your phone number if desired and select "Next" or select "Skip" to skip putting a number in.

iOS Account Setup

With your iOS device, you can choose between two ways to set up an email account: Automatically or Manually. Set it up automatically if you use an email provider such as iCloud, Google, Yahoo, etc. Otherwise, you can set up your account manually.

Automatic Setup

  1. Go to your Settings and select "Accounts & Passwords". Select "Add Account".
  2. Select your email provider, "Google" for @cedarville.edu account, from the options listed. If it is not listed, follow the steps for manual setup below.
  3. Enter your email address (yourCUusername@cedarville.edu) and you will be routed to a Cedarville login page.  Enter your CedarNet username and password when prompted.
  4. Select "Next" and wait for account verification.
  5. If you wish, choose information from your account that you want to see on your device, and select "Save".

Manual Setup

  1. Go to your Settings and select "Accounts & Passwords". Select "Add Account".
  2. Select "Other", then select "Add Mail Account".
  3. Type in your name, email address (yourCUusername@cedarville.edu), CedarNet password, and an account description, then select "Next".
  4. If your Mail finds your email settings, select "Done". If not, select "Next" and continue to the next steps.
  5. Choose IMAP for your new account.
  6. Enter the information prompted for Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server.
  7. Once your email settings are correct, select "Save" and finish.
