How to create fillable PDF forms

Part 1

Creating a Fillable PDF

1. Launch Adobe Acrobat on your computer.

You must use the full Adobe product to create fillable PDFs; the free version of Adobe Reader cannot create fillable PDFs.

Through CedarNet, those with university devices have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro 2018.

To install Adobe Acrobat Pro 2018

Open "CedarNet" on Desktop.

Click the "Graphics" category.

Double click [Adobe Acrobat Pro 2018 Installation].

If not installed, a popup window will appear explaining that the installation will require a restart to occur and that all programs must be saved and closed.

After Adobe Acrobat Pro 2018 is installed

Open "CedarNet" on Desktop.

Click the "Graphics" category.

Double click [Adobe Acrobat Pro 2018].

Security settings can be modified under "File" > "Properties" > "Security".[6]

2. Confirm other users are using Adobe Reader 8 or later if they experience problems saving or filling out the PDF.

Earlier versions of Reader are not compatible with fillable PDF forms.

3. Check for hidden objects or unembedded fonts in your form if users receive the error, “This operation is not permitted” when trying to open or submit the form.

Navigate to "Files" > "Properties" > Click [Fonts] to check for unembedded fonts.

Embed fonts under "View" > "Tools" >  "Advanced Editing" > "TouchUp Text Tool".
