Bria Softphone

The installation of the Bria softphone client will allow you to connect to the campus phone system and make and receive calls just as if you were on campus. You can dial a 4 digit extension to reach someone else with a campus extension, or dial 5+1+[10 digit number] to reach someone off-campus.

Note:  When using this from off-campus, you’ll need to start and sign into the Global Protect VPN before starting the Bria client.  Instructions for installation of the VPN client can be found in the article, GlobalProtect VPN.

Set Up Bria for the First Time

New to Bria? Start by setting up an online account using the information provided below. Once created, you can download and install the Bria program on a Windows or Mac computer to place and receive phone calls. 

To Set Up an Online Bria Account:

  1. Go to https://solo.softphone.com/signup
  2. Enter your Cedarville University email address 
  3. Create a password 
  4. Accept terms and conditions 
  5. Click Start Communicating 
  6. Click Setup Up and Voice Account 
  7. Click Configure SIP Settings, then use the information below to complete the form:
  8. Click Configure Service Settings, then use the information below to complete the form: 
    1. SIP proxy – ezuce2.cedarville.edu 
    2. Voicemail – 4100 
  9. Click Save and Close.

To Download and Install the Bria Client:

  1. Go to https://solo.softphone.com/login. (Already signed in? Skip to Step 3.)
  2. Sign in with your CU email address and the password created above.
  3. From the top menu, click Download Client Apps.
  4. Select the appropriate download for Windows or Mac.
  5. For University-owned computers: Run the Make Me Admin program before continuing.
  6. Locate the downloaded file then double-click to open. 
    • For Mac computers: Drag the icon into your Applications folder to install. Close out of the window and eject the Bria installer. Go to your Applications folder and double-click the Bria icon to open.
    • For Windows computers: If prompted, enter your username and password then click Yes to grant Administrator access.

Add Another Line to Your Account

You may want to add another line to your Bria client, such as your team or department extension. Follow the steps below to get this new line setup on your existing Bria account.

To Add Another Line to Bria Online:

  1. Go to https://solo.softphone.com/login. (Already signed in? Skip to Step 3.)
  2. Sign in with your CU email address and the password created above.
  3. From the top menu, click Voice and Video.
  4. Click the Add Voice Configuration icon  near the top.
  5. Click Configure SIP Settings, then use the information below to complete the form:
    • Service Label – We recommend using the extension number. This field will be displayed in the Bria client.
    • Domain – cedarville.edu 
    • SIP username – 4 digit extension 
    • SIP password – This is different from the PIN or password! ​​​​​​
  6. Click Save and Close

Use Bria on a Computer

To Sign Into the Bria Client:

  1. Locate the Bria icon and double-click to open.
    • For Mac computers: Look in the Applications folder.
    • For Windows computers: Look on the main Desktop.
  2. Enter your CU email address and the password created above.
  3. Optional: You may want to click the box next to Remember sign in information, or you will be prompted each time the program starts. 
  4. Click Sign In.

Having trouble getting signed in? Here are some helpful reminders!

  • The Bria password may vary from your standard CU credentials, so make sure you are using the password you created above.
  • If you are off-campus, you will need to sign into GlobalProtect VPN before starting the Bria client. Need help? See GlobalProtect VPN.

To Place a Call

  1. Click on the area marked Enter name or number to type the desired number as follows:
    • For another extension on campus: Enter the 4 digit extension.
      • For example, "7905" will dial 937-766-7905 for the IT Service Desk.
    • For an off-campus number: Enter 5+1+area code+7 digit number
      • For example, "519377667905" will dial 937-766-7905 for the IT Service Desk. 
      • Note: This number was used for an example only -- you can just use extension 7905 to call IT!
  2. Hit enter or click the phone icon  next to the number to dial.

To Transfer a Call

  1. During an active call, click the Transfer icon  in the toolbar under the phone number.
  2. Enter the 4 digit extension, then choose the transfer type:
    • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
    • Transfer Now: immediately transfers the call without speaking to the tranferee.
    • Call First: allows you to speak to the transferee first.

To Exit the Program

  • For Windows computers: Click the Softphone menu and select Exit.
  • For Mac computers: In the top left corner of the screen (by the Apple icon), click the Bria menu then click Quit Bria​​​​​​​.
